SCHOLARSHIP/AWARD
Outstanding School and Community Involvement Scholarship - Recognizing leadership in community and school activities.
Owen Grimes Memorial Scholarship - Recognizing leadership in athletics, community and school activities.
Awarded annually, each scholarship is valued at $3,000. Submission deadline is September 15, 2018.

Clar Simmons Scholarship - The scholarships are awarded based on standardized public examination scores for: English 3201, Math 3200 or 3201, Public exam science, World Geography 3202. A scholarship score is calculated by the province for all students graduating with an academic or honours status. It is based on the students' public exam only .
Process:
1. Application must be in writing to the CEO, on or before August 17, 2018.
2. Any child, grandchild, or ward of a municipal council member or employee in a community served by the Agency, upon graduation from the NL senior high school program may apply.
3. Any child, grandchild, or ward of an Agency employee or retiree (living or deceased), upon graduation from the NL senior high school program, may apply.
4. Application must contain the name, age, MCP #, and school of the graduate.
5. For applicants under section 2, a letter from the Mayor or Town Clerk, certifying the applicant is a child/ward of a municipal council member or municipal employee is required.
Note: Clar Simmons - a professional accountant. He worked in the public service of NL for more than 35 years. Clar was the BUsiness Manager for the Municipal Assessment Agency from 1998 until his untimely passing in 2004. A gentleman of exemplary patience and loyalty, it is in his memory we are pleased to offer this scholarship opportunity.

Scholarships -Recognizing High School Graduating Students
The recipients of these prestigious awards will be known as Newfoundland and Labrador English School District Scholars. 27 students, ideally 11 from the Eastern region, 6 from the Central region, 5 from Western region, 3 from the Labrador region and 2 at large, will receive this distinction. Awarded to full-time students in the year they graduate from high school in Newfoundland and Labrador English School District. Awarded to students who have attained graduation status ... who have demonstrated involvement at the school and community levels (Addressed in LEtters of Support and Letter of Recommendation) ... who have been officially accepted to a recognized post-secondary institution for the following year. Each scholarship will be established at $1000 and must be taken within one year after it is awarded. See Mme Barrow for application details. Deadline for application is June 29, 2018. The Canadian Hard of Hearing Association - Newfoundland and Labrador (CHHA-NL) offers 3 scholarships for hard of hearing, late deafened and oral deaf students in Newfoundland and Labrador. The deadline for all scholarship applications is June 30 of each year.

$40 000 Chris Huslikson Emera Scholarship An Atlantic Canadian student in the areas of science, technology, engineering, entrepreneurship or math, attending university in the region, will receive $14 000 over four years. The recipient will also receive a paid, 12 week internship and a senior mentor from one of Emera's companies. Application deadline is April 26, 2018. Centara Council of Aliant Pioneers Scholarship Program -
Students with Exceptionalities Scholarship Eligible students: * will meet the Provincial Department of Education definition of a "student with a disability" (http://www.ed.gov.nl.ca/edu/k12/studentsupportservices/exceptionalities.html) * must be enrolled in a post-secondary institution. Recipients are chosen on the basis of two primary criteria: * Academic performances is an important criteria, displaying the students own personal commitment to her or his education. * Commitment to community service and volunteerism as evidenced by extra-curricular activities and volunteer contributions to the school and/or community is equally important. Stewardship Association of Municipalities - Conservation Scholarship
Deadline is May 1, 2018 - $1000 scholarship recognizes a student from Newfoundland and Labrador whose interests, activities and post-secondary goals are focused on the conservation of habitat in Newfoundland and Labrador.
To be eligible, students must be:
1. Residents of Newfoundland and Labrador;
2. Enrolled or entering in a post-secondary program;and
3. Have demonstrated an active commitment to conservation in Newfoundland and Labrador.

Winner will be determined on the basis of a 750 to 1000 word essay on: The importance of their field of study in either policing, criminal justice services or health care in delivering public services to Canadians. Eligible: All those entering a field of study in policing, criminal justice services, community services or health care srervices and who are children/grandchildren (including foster children / grandchildren) of NAPE current/retired members. SCHOLARSHIP FOR STUDENTS OF COLOUR
Winner will be determined on the basis of a 750 to 1000 word essay on: The importance of quality public services in enhancing the quality of life of people of colour. An application form must be completed and accompany the essay. Eligible: all visible minority children/grandchildren of NAPE- current or retired. The amount of the scholarship is $1500.00. Newfoundland and Labrador Women's Institute Scholarship Application - Open to all Level III students who will graduate in the current year. Students are required to be in the Academic Program and willing to write an essay on the following : Describe your most important contribution to your school or community. Become a SHAD FELLOW and have a network for life. SHAD is an intense STEAM-based program that focuses on academic learning through lectures, workshops, labs and group projects. The SHAD 2018 program will take place from July 1 to 27. Grade 10, 11 and 12 students have the opportunity to be challenged beyond their high school curriculum, with like-minded peers. Schulich Leader Scholarships are the largest and most prestigious undergraduate Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) scholarships in Canada, with a value of up to $100,000 each. Fifty students receive this celebrated award each year - a top student can win from our school!! Students have to be nominated by the school in order for their names to be eligible. If any graduating student is interested in applying you need to see Mme Barrow for more info. There is a school application that needs to be completed before anyone can be nominated. You will need to write a 600 word essay demonstrating why you would make a great Schulich Leader. Visit their website for some ideas in the type of information that might be useful to include. Deadline for essay is December 1, 2017.
Explore Grenfell Campus is a program for grade 11 and 12 students (priority given to grade 12 students) ... it gives students an opportunity to tour campus, attend faculty lead sessions, hear from current students and watch our profs give 2-minute lightning talks on our degree programs. It will be happening on November 24 from 10:00 AM - 3:20 PM. Deadline to apply is November 1. Students can visit http://www.grenfell.mun.ca/explore-grenfell to apply to attend. Students are responsible for their transportation to this event.
ENCOUNTERS WITH CANADA is a program available to students aged 14 - 17 years of age. It provides participants with the choice of 13 different theme weeks, which enable them to explore and experience potential careers and areas of personal interest. www.encounters-rencontres.ca for more info. Humanities for Young People (HYP) is a residential summer program at University of Kings College in Halifax, It will give students a taste of university life, and encourage your interests in literature, philosophy, history, politics, and art. It runs from July 7-15, 2018 for students aged 15-17. You can apply online, with a brief statement of your interest in the theme of Migration and a letter of recommendation from an adult who knows you well. THe fee is $975 and includes accommodations meals, materials, lectures and excursions. Bursaries may be available to students with financial need. The deadline for applications is May 18, 2018.
